The Venerable Dr Edward Simonton OGS

Archdeacon Simonton is from the deep South of the United States. At a young age he left home to attend Anglican boarding schools in New England before moving to Scotland in his late teens. There, he worked with the Anglican order of Franciscans ministering to the homeless and the terminally ill of Edinburgh. He studied for degrees at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Cambridge as a member of Peterhouse. Fr Edward came to Canada to serve a remote mission parish in the Rocky Mountains. He then took up ministry in the Diocese of Montreal as the Regional Dean of the Laurentians and Archdeacon of St Andrews. After a decade, he was called to the Diocese of Quebec and Eastern Townships as Archdeacon of St Francis. In 2017, Bishop Myers appointed him Vicar General of our diocese and Archdeacon of Quebec.

Fr Edward has predominantly served rural areas and has engaged in formal youth ministry at local and international levels. A trained liturgist, he is editor of McCausland’s Order of Divine Service and has served on national and international bodies, including as the convenor for Canada’s liturgical calendar revision. As a member of the Anglican-Oriental Orthodox International Commission he has contributed to the production of agreed ecumenical statements on Christology (2014) and the Holy Spirit (2017).

Fr Edward is a professed member of the Oratory of the Good Shepherd. He serves as Registrar of the Memorial of Merit of King Charles the Martyr. He has a particular affection for animals, folklore, and Dr Who.

The Reverend Canon Giuseppe Gagliano is the Rural Dean and Canon for Lay Ministries.

Rural Dean and Canon for Lay Ministries

Canon Gagliano grew up in the countryside of Wellington County, Ontario. He was raised in the Mennonite Church on his mother’s side and baptized in the Roman Catholic Church of his father’s heritage. Fr Giuseppe attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, where he studied religion and politics and became involved in the Anglican parish on campus. He took up theological studies at Berkeley Divinity School at Yale and Yale Divinity School with an emphasis on educational ministry.

Upon ordination, Fr Giuseppe served in the Diocese of Ontario as curate at St Paul’s, Sydenham and Christ Church, Cataraqui. In 2017, he came to the Diocese of Quebec as a priest of the St Francis Regional Ministry. He is Canon for Lay Ministries in our diocese and was appointed Rural Dean of St Francis in 2024.

Fr Giuseppe is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program at Sewanee: The University of the South. Since 2019, he has sat on the Board of Governors of Montreal Diocesan Theological College. In his ministry, he has developed a penchant for writing hymns, which are often sung in our parishes. He is a Priest Companion of the Oratory of the Good Shepherd.

Fr Giuseppe and his wife, Cristina, were married in 2024 at St George, Lennoxville. They live in North Hatley and have two dogs: D. B. Cooper and Hildegard.

Deacon Sam Borsman is the Deacon for the St Francis Regional Ministry. He is part of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Deacon of the St. Francis Regional Ministry

The Reverend Sam Borsman was ordained to the diaconate in December 2022.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from McGill University and a Master of Arts degree in the study of East Asian religion from Harvard Divinity School.  His interests include the study of religion and the environment and religious thinking about animals.  

Sam lived in Japan for four years, where he met his wife, Kyoko. They live in Massawippi with their son, Ren, and two Chihuahuas. Sam is involved in ecumenical work with local churches. He serves as the co-president of the Sherbrooke Ecumenical Liaison Committee.  

Spencer Nadeau is a young Anglican who serves as the administrative assistant for the Bishop's Office of the Anglican Diocese of Quebec and the Deanery.

Spencer Nadeau serves as the administrative assistant to the Bishop’s office of the Anglican Diocese of Quebec. Thanks to modern technology, nearly all of his Diocesan responsibilities can be done from his Deanery office at St George, Lennoxville where he also serve as the administrative assistant to the St. Francis regional ministry. A cradle Anglican, Spencer has worn countless hats throughout his years in the church. From a server to a Deanery Layer Reader, and now as a Diocesan administrator, there is almost no part of church life that he has not been involved in.

Spencer holds a Liberal Arts degree from Champlain College Lennoxville (2016), a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Bishop’s University (2020), and a Master of Arts degree from Acadia University (2022). In graduate school, he specialized in J.R.R. Tolkien studies and wrote a thesis titled, "The Sound of Middle-earth:  Music and Song among the Races in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings." His thesis won the Acadia Outstanding Masters Research Award in Arts.
